A pioneering plant science expert from Norwich has been made a Dame in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Professor Caroline Dean is the project leader at the Cell and Developmental Biology department at the John Innes Centre in Norwich and the project scientist at the CEPAMS.

Her pioneering studies of epigenetics have demonstrated how plants carry a memory of environmental conditions by reprogramming their genes. Her work has helped to improve scientific understanding of crops and the effects of climate change. Her discoveries in gene silencing have aided understanding in areas of biology beyond her own field.
